As the many hunting seasons in Iowa continue, there is something that hunters may find helpful.
Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Jeremy King says that the DNR has several helpful ways for hunters to obtain information, like yearly rules and regulations books. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that an even easier way to get that information fits in the palm of your hand.
“Yeah, I would just encourage anybody if they haven’t already, get the Iowa DNR app on their phone, which is free to download. It doesn’t cost anything. That’s a great way to purchase licenses and show that license to an officer if you were to get checked. It also shows you sunrise (and) sunset tables, helps you with your mandatory harvest reporting of animals on deer and turkey. It’s just a great tool to have.”
King mentions that the app also has a reporting feature for Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD), also known as “Blue Tongue.” He adds that if people find deer that they believe have EHD, please report it, as the DNR wants to keep close track on the disease. The DNR’s app can be found on the App Store and Google Play Store by searching for GoOutdoorsIA.
