Brothers Tyler and Jesse Miller and their Division I college football teams had games on Saturday not soon to be forgotten. Tyler is a fifth year senior and starting offensive tackle for the Iowa State Cyclones and Jesse is a redshirt freshman tight end for the Coyotes at the U. of South Dakota. Both are Greene County High School graduates, Tyler in 2020 and Jesse in 2023.
USD, ranked number 4 in the Football Championship Subdivision, claimed a share of the Missouri Valley Football Conference title, the first in school history, with a dramatic 29-28 victory Saturday afternoon in Vermillion over top ranked North Dakota State. The Coyotes scored twice in the last 3-1/2 minutes of playing time including the game winner with 12 seconds on the clock to overcame a late 28-17 deficit. Miller has played in eight of USD’s 11 games, including arguably the biggest win in USD history.
Big brother Tyler and his Cyclones teammates took a late lead over the Utah Utes in Salt Lake City, then watched a potential game-tying field goal attempt sail wide right in the closing seconds and ISU won 31-28. The victory keeps the Cyclones hopes alive for playing in the Big 12 Championship game. The last regular season game is with Kansas State visiting Jack Trice Field on Saturday night.
USD will be in the FCS playoffs and ISU will play in the postseason as well, either in the 12-team FBS playoffs or in a high level bowl game. Tyler and Jesse are the sons of Mark and Jennifer Miller of the rural Scranton/Churdan area.
