The Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs girls basketball team seemed to be firing on all cylinders during the season opener against the Ballard Bombers, picking up a 67-35 victory over the visiting Bombers last night. The Mustangs would take the first two minutes to iron out the kinks and rust from the off season, as they had three team fouls within the first two minutes. With the potential of having bonus free throws early on in the game, the Mustangs began to find their rhythm and gain momentum against the Bombers.
The Mustangs would find their rhythm in the first quarter, taking a 14-7 lead going into the second quarter. Dallas Center-Grimes would begin to pull ahead with some crucial blocks and steals to maintain a 26-17 lead going into halftime. Coming back from the break, the Mustangs would continue to creep ahead, ending the third quarter with a 49-30 score before Dallas Center-Grimes’ best quarter pulling ahead for a fine score of 67-35 only allowing 5 points in the final quarter.
Seven total Mustangs would score against the Bombers with Macy Meyer the sophomore leading the charge with an impressive 23 points. Leah Brauch would score 12 points with an impressive four three pointers. Paisley Heidgerken would close out the game with 8 points, followed by Aniyah Boens and Tess Jones with 6 points. Lastly, senior Sydney Miller would close out the contest with 5 points.
The Mustang girls are back in action at home on Tuesday as they host the #2 ranked North Polk Comets. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30pm with coverage on KDLS starting at 7:15pm.
