Two Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center students are heading to Ames to perform in the Iowa High School Music Association All-State Music Festival on Saturday.

AC/GC Vocal Director Kelsey Dinkla says Carter Dinkla and Rhonin Grasty will be part of the choir ensemble, after being selected from the auditions last month. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that this continues a nearly decade-long streak of AC/GC students being chosen to perform in the All-State Choir.

“I believe it has been since 2016 that we have consecutively had vocalists selected each year, which for a small school, if anyone knows the All-State process, it’s a lot like speech, where the adjudicators aren’t supposed to know what school you’re from, what size of school you’re from. Resources are not as plentiful out here as they are in the metro area. So typically, you’re going to see a lot of the larger schools represented. And so when small schools are able to have students selected. It’s just a really special feeling and there’s a huge sense of pride there as well.”

Dinkla mentions that Carter Dinkla and Grasty have been practicing since before the school year started, working hard to get where they are. The two will be performing at 7:30pm in Hilton Coliseum at Iowa State University on Saturday, along with all the other All-State Choir selections.
