Jayette wrestling has their first meet on Thursday. The competition will be tough in the quad hosted by Waukee Northwest in Van Meter. Amelie Canales is gearing up for her sophomore season. Her mind is always thinking while in a match. “Telling myself to keep going. Never give up like in the middle of the match keep breathing don’t lose just keep focusing on your movements and making sure everything’s good.” Another returning sophomore, Cate Erickson, likes alone time before she gets on the mat. “I think I just like step away from the team and take some time by myself. Mentally prepare just like try to be confident get ready.” Perry has 15 girls on the roster this season. Last year, they had just 5. The Jayettes are poised to be more competitive in the team portion of meets with the elevated numbers.
