On Monday, several events and programs happened in Greene County to celebrate Veterans Day
The Greene County High School had its Veterans Day program in the auditorium, where the local veterans were highlighted on stage as they listened to the guest speaker with Michael Bierl, the Greene County Veterans Affairs Director. He spoke about his time in the Air Force, and the brotherhood that is built within the military community.
“Serving in the military and serving our veterans here in Greene County, I really got to understand that our veterans all have a high degree of comradery with their peers, both while they were serving and after. And it’s something that stays with them for life. There’s that special bond that they have for each other, their branch of service, their freedom, their country and their flag.”
Paton-Churdan had all grade levels on display during their Veterans Day program. The featured speaker was Colonel Monica Brouse, of the 132nd Wing in Des Moines, who was introduced by fellow veteran Shane Olson.
Additionally, The American Legion Post #11 in Jefferson, visited the Gardens Assisted Living Center and Regency Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. According to Post Adjutant Barb Labate, they gave speeches at each facility and the veterans that attended received a personalized flashlight with their military branch that they served.
