With trapping season open across Iowa, many hunters that enjoy the sport have been able to continue to catch furbearing animals.
Some individuals may not have areas on their land or other private areas to trap, which means public areas are a known commodity. Guthrie County Conservation Director Brad Halterman mentions that there are some public areas where individuals can hunt or trap, so long as they follow regulations. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio there are areas where hunting and trapping aren’t allowed though.
“Our wildlife refuges like Sutcliffe Woodlands, no, and our parks, Nations Bridge, Lennon Mill, those areas (are a) no (too).”
Halterman mentions that a few public areas available for use include Bennie Hall Wildlife Area, Monteith Wildlife Area and Lakin Slough. He adds that a full list of public areas for hunting and/or fishing can be found on the Guthrie County website. Halterman reminds individuals to be mindful of rules and regulations, and only hunt or fish where permitted.
