A business that started in 2021 in downtown Jefferson has since re-launched under complete local ownership.

Megan Waters is the co-owner, CEO and President of Midwest Wellness and Recovery, formerly known as Midwest Behavioral Health, and is re-licensed and took on its first client following the re-launch this past summer. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio Midwest Wellness and Recovery is a state licensed substance use disorder program that centers itself on helping people understand their addiction and getting people to live a healthier life.

“Our focus is not solely on those diagnoses but really on helping people to reignite their lives. To not only exist in their struggles but to live life and reconnect, and to be well in general.”

Waters points out the levels of services includes a residential center in Scranton, where it is a 30-60 day 24 hour facility that has nine beds, partial hospitalization that is similar to the high level of care at a hospital, but the client gets to go home at night; as well as offering intensive outpatient and general outpatient services, that also caters to adolescents that start at age 12. She illustrates the inspiration to keep the business going is from personal experience, with family members and close friends, who dealt with addictions and wanting to see them change and live a fuller life.

“It’s not a cure. Recovery is a life-long process that has a lot of ups and downs, and I just think people are worth it. My own mother for the first time in her life found recovery. She just looks like a new person. She is a new person. I don’t believe it’s ever too late. As long as tomorrow comes then you have a new day to start again, even if yesterday was tough and maybe you didn’t reach the goals that you wanted to, you start again.”

Waters adds that Midwest Wellness and Recovery is a 100 percent voluntary service based and encourages anyone who would like to learn more to stop by their main location on the corner of Wilson Avenue and East Lincoln Way in downtown Jefferson or call them at 515-900-8661.
