As the girls basketball season quickly approaches, West Central Valley Wildcats head coach Dan Druivenga reflects on how the game of girls basketball has changed throughout his twenty plus year career as a coach.

With the introduction of the 35 second shot clock, coach Durivenga reflected on how this can be challenging for incoming freshmen to adjust to. “With the game being changed you got to change a little bit with it and you got to shoot a little bit quicker and and get a more up tempo game a little bit more than we used to. When the Freshman come up from Junior High there is no 35 second clock so you got to kind of teach them, you got to get going we can’t set it up as much we got to play more just basketball get the ball off as quick as you can and get into your offense a little bit quicker so you can get a shot off within the 35 seconds. It’s still a long time but if you walk the ball up and it takes so many passes you all sudden you’re throwing up a shot with like five seconds left to go.”

As the first week of practice begins to come to a close, coach Druivenga and his Wildcat girls continue to focus on the fundamentals.
