A free event is coming up this Sunday for people to check out art interpretation at a new venue in Jefferson.

Tower View Team Chair Deb McGinn says the 3rd Annual Ekphrasis is Sunday at 2pm at the Courtyard Events and Wedding Center, next to the Sierra Community Theater, in Jefferson. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio this year’s featured speaker is an author, performer and producer, Caleb “The Negro Artist” Rainey. McGinn explains that the Columbia, Missouri native earned a bachelor’s degree in English-creative writing from the University of Iowa, and has published two books, “Look Black Boy,” that was Amazon’s #1 new release in African American Poetry and in 2019, Rainey published “Heart Notes.”

McGinn describes how Rainey delivers his poetry, which has won him multiple poetry slams across the country.

“Much of his poetry focuses on growing up black in America and how we relate to each other. I’ve gotten to hear his poetry and his words and the way in which he presents them will make you feel just all of the feels.”

Additionally, McGinn says 13 artists have made original art pieces based on 13 poems that will also be showcased. She adds that there is no registration for this free event that is open to the public.
