Cindi Daubendiek taking Oath of Office for Board President
The Greene County School Board met Wednesday night in regular session.
During reports, Board member Michelle Fields is on the facilities committee and reported that an initial estimate from OPN Architects to overhaul the entrance to Linduska Field was over $1 million. She felt that this could be encompassed with the DLR Group while they are working on a district facilities plan. That way community members could voice their suggestions of what they would like to see.
Then during the organizational part of the meeting, Cindi Daubendiek was elected as board president and Fields as board vice president. The Board also approved to keep the regular board meetings on the second Wednesday of the month at 5:15pm in the District Boardroom, along with the 12 board committee assignments.
Additionally, the Board approved four student driving permits, including Gavin Block, Cashtin Reed, Mylie Miller and Santos Barios Velazquez, along with approving five fundraiser requests as presented, the first reading for several new board policies, while also waiving the second reading for final adoption, and the first reading for several amended board policies, and waiving the second reading for final adoption.
The Board also discussed the early voluntary retirement options for administration, classified and certified employees. Superintendent Brett Abbotts said he will not offer the early retirement incentive because he felt he didn’t want to lose the good teaching staff the district has to incentives for them to retire. However, he noted that the three options that were discussed just allow an employee to cash in their sick days if they want to voluntarily retire. The two School Budget Review Committee applications were tabled, due to not having access to the individual items before the board meeting. Finally, the meeting ended in a closed session for the superintendent evaluation process.
