There is going to be a new individual that will be joining the Greene County Board of Supervisors starting in January.
Republican Joe Gannon recently won the County Supervisor District 1 seat during the November 5th General Election. He defeated the Democratic candidate Greg Ruth and tells Raccoon Valley Radio that he was excited when he found out that he was elected to be a county supervisor.
“I appreciate everybody’s support and I look forward to representing you on the Board of Supervisors. And if you have any questions or concern, I plan to always be available. So call me, text me, (or) email me, anyway you want to get a hold of me, I’m available.”
The 2005 East Greene High School graduate grew up on a family farm, north of Rippey, and studied building trades at Iowa Central Community College. He married his wife Emily in 2012 and they have three school-aged children that go to Greene County School District. They started a small business in 2014, he has been serving on the Grand Junction Fire Department for 17 years, served on the Greene County ISU Extension Council and is a Junction Township Trustee.
Gannon explains why he wanted to be a county supervisor.
“One of the main reasons I ran is because I look at the long-term of our county and looking into the future I feel like the younger generation needs to be more involved and educated on what’s going on, on behalf of them in our county government.”
Gannon will officially take over as the Greene County District 1 Supervisor on January 3rd at the organizational meeting for the new year. Current District 1 Supervisor Mick Burkett did not seek re-election after serving two terms.
