An event with the Dallas County Conservation Board is coming up soon relating to animal hibernation strategies.

The board is welcoming people to their Fall Critter Scramble program this Saturday at the Kuehn Conservation Area, 32849 Houston Avenue, in Earlham, IA from 9:30-10:30am. Naturalist Erica Northwick shares that animals prepare for the winter season in different ways. Not only will people learn about animal’s winter habits, but it will be interactive for guests as well.

“To learn those things, we can go through a series of games, little activities, kind of like hide and seek activities, a little bit of eye-spy, walking, a little bit of hiking short distance. We’ll be outside the whole time, so make sure that you’re dressed to be outside the whole time.”

Northwick describes that this is the first time the conservation board is doing this type of event, but will try to change programs every year to keep things fresh. She adds that the event is free to attend for individuals of any age as long as they are aware of their own comfort level. Any questions can be directed to the Dallas County Conservation Board at (515)-465-3577.
