“Good things come to those who wait” is a saying that fits many things in life. When the 2025 list of Greene County Athletic Hall of Fame selections was announced earlier this week, a good thing will be happening for 1964 Scranton High School graduate Bruce Mac Donald. The 79 year old Lebanon, MO resident is dealing with health issues, but he and his wife are expected to be in Jefferson for Hall of Fame events Thursday and Friday Feb. 6 and 7, 2025.
An incredible track and field career for the Scranton Trojans, (a school without a track) resulted in six outdoor State Championships and two more indoors. The 1964 Trojans were the small school class State runner-up, missing first by just one point. One of Mac Donald’s many highlights came in a race he finished second place in, and that was the 100 yard dash for high school boys at the 1964 Drake Relays in Des Moines. Legendary Clyde Duncan of Des Moines North won the rae with Mac Donald from tiny Scranton being the second fastest sprinter in all of Iowa that year.
