Since the new Multicultural Family Resource Center Director has started in Greene County, she continues to make positive impacts in different aspects of the community.

Recently, Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse says MFRC Director Sara Huddleston helped one of his officers with a situation with a Hondurus family. He points out that Huddleston’s background of working with law enforcement in Storm Lake and her work with victim advocacy helped as she provided needed services to cross a language barrier that their department’s usual tactics were not accomplishing.

“She was able to jump in and make some phone calls, and sit through interviews, and really explain to the family what was going on. Where we could probably make them understand a little bit, but not give them a full, clear definition. Sara was awesome at that.”

As for the Greene County School District, Superintendent Brett Abbotts tells Raccoon Valley Radio that Huddleston has been a great asset to them, while working in conjunction with the other two primary staff members that handle cultural challenges, with Kristen Heupel and Amy Van Der Meer.

“Sara as a resource for our teachers has been incredible and the work that she’s done to take some of that stuff off of Kristen and Amy’s plates has been great. She is absolutely worth it and we continue to look forward to that ongoing relationship we have with her.”

Abbotts commends the work that Huddleston has been doing as a liaison between the families and the school district and communication needs with interpreting and translating for students.
