Trees Forever Coordinator Brad Riphagen (standing right) gives a tree planting demo from May of 2022
A free come and go program is happening this Friday with Greene County ISU Extension.
Greene County Director Jeff Lamoureux says “Tree Talk with Brad Riphagen” takes place from 9:30-11am at the Extension Office in Jefferson. Riphagen is the Jefferson Trees Forever Coordinator and he tells Raccoon Valley Radio why the fall season is the perfect time of year to plant deciduous trees, or trees that shed their leaves in the fall.
“The thing that’s beautiful about this is tha t’s their natural time to be dormant. So they’re going into the winter dormant, they’ve dropped their leaves, they’re taking a break anyhow, you let them come out in the spring, they’re there for all of the spring rains, you don’t have to worry about it being too wet to put them into the ground, they are right there taking them all in.”
Other topics that will be covered at Friday’s program include tree guards, proper watering routines, mulching and fertilizing. There is no registration needed for this free program.
