Greene County ended the 2024 football season with five wins and five losses. The Rams placed third among six teams in Class 2A District 8, going 3-2 with wins vs. Saydel (Des Moines), Southeast Valley (Gowrie), and Des Moines Christian. The losses were to top 10 rated teams in District Champion Kuemper Catholic (Carroll), and Roland-Story (Story City). The other three losses wre to 2A undefeated and second ranked PCM (Monroe), Class 3A playoff qualifier Carroll High, and 3A Atlantic, who didn’t make the playoffs, but had a 6-4 record.
None of the regular season wins were against teams with winning records in Perry (2-7), Saydel (1-8), SE Valley (3-5), and DMC (4-5). The DMC Lions were ranked in the top 10 after week 7, but Greene County’s 14-13 victory dropped them out of the top 10 polls. First round playoff opponent Clarinda had a 6-2 mark before falling to the Rams.
This Greene County football team had among the lowest number of players on it in grades 9-12 in decades. Head coach Caden Duncan expects an overall increase in the numbers next year with less than 10 seniors on this team and a large class of freshmen expected next fall.
