Iowa Learning Farms and the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship are jointly hosting a wetland Field Day near Bayard next week.
The free event is open to farmers and landowners from 12:30-2:30pm at David Gretemen’s farm, with a complimentary meal provided as well. The Field Day will cover why water quality enhancement wetlands are constructed, including how they reduce particles from nutrient runoff from crop fields and provide a wildlife habitat and increased recreational opportunities.
Attendees will hear from Greteman about the newly completed wetland on his farm, along with remarks from Iowa Nutrient Research Center Assistant Director Kay Stefanik. Weather permitting, there will also be a walking tour of the wetland to conclude the Field Day. Reservations are required, with those to be made by the end of today. To make a reservation, contact Liz Ripley by phone at 515-294-5429 or email at ilf@iastate.edu.
