With the colder months coming in, one indoor activity tends to get overlooked for sustaining a healthy lifestyle, aquatic exercising.
McCreary Community Center Aquatic Director Ben Fleming details the advantages that water exercises can have over more strenuous workouts. Fleming tells Raccoon Valley Radio that water is 800 times more resistant than air, leading to a more natural movement, which in turn avoids wear and tear that most ground exercises would cause. He says that a person’s body will see more long term benefits with their muscles.
“Going to help your joints be more mobile, and it’s going to help with recovery, healing, and not only that, but with that resistance, if you’re looking to specifically just lose weight and gain muscle, and this is lean muscle so you’re not going to get all bulky like a body-builder would but if you’re looking to lose weight, water aerobics or just lap swimming is probably the most efficient way to lose weight.”
Fleming is certified to teach personal classes with individuals in the Perry area. Any questions can be directed to the McCreary Community Building at (515)-465-5621.
