Perry’s newest Police Chief Jim Archer says he is committed to upholding the high standard of the department.

Archer recently took over the police chief role from Eric Vaughn, who retired this past Friday, November 1st. He began working with the Perry Police Department in 2000 as a patrol officer with Vaughn, then promoted to sergeant in 2003, and was appointed the assistant chief of police for the last two years. Archer illustrates that as long as he’s been with the department, the group has been hands on in the community by mitigating illegal activity.

“Our crime rates have gotten drastically reduced over the years, and I attribute that a lot to our enforcement of laws here in Perry. We just continue to strive to be proactive and investigate crimes and that kind of thing, so we just hope to continue that trend to have lower crime rates here in Perry, and making our communities safe.”

Archer credits the two police chiefs he’s worked under with Dan Brickner and Vaughn, by being wonderful mentors and role models to prepare him for this new role.
