Two athletic facilities with the Greene County School District are being looked at for some upgrades.

Greene County Schools Superintendent Brett Abbotts says he is working with OPN Architects, which designed the high school facility, and are also designing a new entrance, concession stand and restroom area at Linduska Field. Abbotts points out one hang up about pushing forward with the restroom area is what state code dictates when it comes to the required number of stalls to fan capacity.

“It’s interesting how many we needed. We were kind of estimating that we might only need 12-15 total, which would be a significant upgrade from what we currently have, and state code would require us to have more than 30. So we thought that that was pretty extreme and we wanted to just to make sure if that was truly what was required before we went down the road of building something like that.”

The other facility is the softball field that the city of Jefferson owns and has a sharing agreement in place with the school district. Abbotts explains that there are lots of improvements that are needed, including repairing the irrigation system, adjusting the lip on the back edge of the field, realigning the bases, installing a new batting cage and lighting. He appreciates the city staff being willing to negotiate.

“The city has been really great to work with. So kudos to (City Administrator) Scott Peterson and his staff there, just in their response to it, that they’re very willing to work with us. They want what we want, which is a great place for our girls to play and a nice quality field and facilities that they can be proud of.”

Abbotts adds both parties are finding solutions that will benefit each other.
