A US Senator from Iowa weighs in on how the US support is looking to the general public and other legislators concerning two military conflicts.

Senator Chuck Grassley says without question, there has been US support for Israel in the last half century and it is very strong right now as they are involved in their fight against Iran. He hints at one possible exception is the situation in Gaza.

“You could be a person that disagrees with the way that Israel is handling things in Gaza, but you’re still going to stand behind the country of Israel.”

As for the European country of Ukraine and their continued war with Russia, Grassley points out that it has some mixed emotions. However, he clarifies that the recent $65 billion US package to Ukraine has about half staying with the US, making war materials and replenishing military warehouses with US workers, along with supporting US troops that are in Europe.

“And so there isn’t $65 billion going, but when people read in the newspapers day after day about $65 billion for Ukraine, then they think that money’s going to Kiev. So I think that has weakened US support for Ukraine but not completely.”

Grassley adds the US needs to keep doing what it can to help Ukraine because if Russian President Vladimir Putin overtakes Ukraine he could be seen as more of a threat to a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) country.
