A Jefferson man was sentenced to prison in Greene County District Court for a January incident.

According to court documents, 34-year-old Brandon Duong pled guilty to a Class D Felony for violating a custodial order. He was sentenced to five years in prison, to be served consecutively with the seven year prison sentence from Woodbury County, where he also pled guilty to a Class D Felony for eluding and an aggravated misdemeanor for child endangerment from the same January incident.

The charges stemmed from January 30th when Duong took his seven-year-old son Bryson from Greene County Elementary School without permission. Brandon was restricted from having custody of his biological son from a court order that was filed in December of 2023. An statewide Amber Alert was issued and Duong’s vehicle was spotted in Woodbury County where a chase ensued. Duong’s vehicle eventually crashed and he tried to flee on foot while holding a rifle and using his son as a human shield.

As per the plea agreement, all fines and surcharges have been suspended, and the Class B Felony for second degree kidnapping in Greene County, and three traffic infractions in Woodbury County were also dismissed.
