The Perry Elks Lodge recently held the 52nd annual Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest, and saw a good amount of kids participate.
Perry Elks Hoops Contest Director Travis Landgrebe shares that 25 kids competed and were split into six age and gender divisions (boys and girls 8-9 years old, boys and girls 10-11 years old, and boys and girls 12-13 years old). He highlights that the competition is part of an yearly tradition that is done with the Elks Lodge. Landgrebe has been apart of it for the past seven years, and loves the opportunities it gives kids.
“Youth activities and youth participation for the Elks is pretty important. So, I like getting kids having something safe and fun to do, and something that I enjoy doing, so my kids do it, and have had a lot of different boys and girls that come and enjoy, see their faces and stuff.”
Landgrebe mentions that six kids advanced to the district contest, which is set to happen in the City of Jefferson in January. Following districts, he explains that kids can then move onto the state competition in Grinnell, Iowa and then have a shot to go to Nationals in Chicago, Illinois.
