An event was recently held in Perry, causing confusion, and Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn is setting the record straight.
According to Vaughn, Central Iowa Community ID had an event at the First Christian Church this past Saturday, October 26th, that distributed a non-governmental form of identification to people. He stresses that the ID card is not eligible to be a license to drive or vote, but could be used at banks, libraries, or other non-criminal situations. Vaughn acknowledges that the Perry Police Department was not at the event and therefore any officers did not make any statements.
He adds that the City of Perry is not a sanctuary city and the department complies with state codes cooperating with the federal agencies charged with enforcing federal immigration laws. He concludes that the department is happy to serve the community and will continue to do so with dignity and respect.
