A female organization in Greene County recently sponsored an event for some young people in the county.
Beta Tau Delta member Carole Custer says they paid for all first graders in the Greene County and Paton-Churdan School Districts to visit the Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines. She points out that during this event, students got to feed the giraffes lettuce leaves, ride the zoo train, enjoy a hot lunch served by zoo staff, along with feeding the animals at the petting zoo and there was an educational program about snakes, turtles and porcupines.
Custer adds that each student got to take a souvenir home that was also sponsored by Beta Tau Delta and she thanks Home State Bank for providing water to everyone on the trip. She notes that Beta Tau Delta members were chaperones, along with teachers and assistants. Custer says the sorority organization uses money from their annual fund drive in the community to financially support this endeavor every year.
