With the holiday season around the corner, many individuals may have already started decorating the outsides of their homes.

Stuart Fire Fighter Corey Pline says that there are a few things that people should remember when putting up their decorations though, especially when it comes to those that need electricity. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that when plugging decorations and electronics into extension cords and power strips, to keep the load limit in mind.

“You just want to remember the main thing is don’t overload that outlet. Even though you have a power strip, don’t overload that power strip because it may have so many plugs, but that doesn’t mean you should use all the plugs. And some of those lights you can plug into themselves. You don’t want to plug too many in. You just kind of want to stay at one plug per strand.”

Pline mentions that most homes come with outlets that can handle 120 volts, or 15 to 20 amps of electric current. He adds that keeping a maximum of one plug per outlet is a good way to help prevent electrical fires.
