This Thursday is the annual Halloween-themed event in Jefferson.

The festivities begin at the Greene County Community Center with the Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department hosting a Halloween Party from 3:45-5pm. JPRD Director Nathan Kral says there will be lots of games and some candy for two year olds to fifth graders to enjoy. He talks about a group of helpers that assist with the games and other activities.

“I talked to the (Greene County) high school, they have an Interact Club and the Interact Club gets a lot of kids to come over here and run our stations. And most of them even dress up in their Halloween costumes and interact with the kids. Yeah, the younger kids, they love that.”

Kral adds that the kids are also encouraged to participate and to pre-register for this free event.

Then from 4:30-6pm is the Jefferson Matters Spook the Loop on the downtown square. Executive Director Matt Wetrich invites businesses and organizations to be on the square to hand out candy and other treats to the trick o’ treaters that visit.

The Jefferson Public Library will host its activities from 5-6:30pm at the library. Youth Services Librarian Bailey Mount says upstairs in the Youth Department are games and candy, along with a Halloween book give away drawing. Then, Mount points out in the basement will be the feature presentation of a skit based on the book, “Little Ghost Makes A Friend” by Maggie Edkins Willis.

“And it is the story of a little ghost who has lived in the same house with her mom for hundreds of years and someone finally moves into the house next door and she really wants to be friends with them and the person just happens to be a human girl.”

The festivities round out at the Greene County High School auditorium for a middle and high school band Halloween concert from 6:30-7:30pm. Everything on Thursday is free and open to the public.
