The Iowa National Guard is no longer dispatching soldiers from Perry to give relief to the residents of Florida dealing with the devastation of the recent hurricanes.

The state of Florida has been hit with two consecutive hurricanes of Helene and Milton, leaving hundreds of people dead and millions without power or homes. According to Iowa National Guard Public Affairs Operations Officer Austin Cox, several soldiers from the City of Perry met at Camp Dodge in Johnston on October 10th in preparation to head south to help with the recovery process. Cox emphasizes that after being notified from representatives in Florida that they were capable of managing the relief efforts, the soldiers were called off. He notes that the Iowa National Guard will remain on standby for future needs.
