The last home volleyball action of the season for the Greene County Rams was last night in the high school gym in Jefferson. Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s team won in four sets vs. Heart of Iowa Activities Conference rival PCM (Monroe). Set scores were 25-11, 22-25, 25-19, 25-21.  Greene County went 5-3 in conference play and finished in fourth place in the HOIAC while the Mustangs were 4-4 in league play and they stand at 15-10 overall.

A 9-0 run to begin set one gave the Rams a strong start, which  held up. Set two saw the Mustangs get ahead early, then the Rams led 15-13. PCM and Greene County traded small leads in the set before the Mustangs scored seven of the last eight points to square the match at one set apiece. In set three, the Rams trailed 6-9, but pulled ahead in the middle part of the set, and closed it out by scoring five of the final six points. The Rams were down 6-13 in set four, but rallied before first tying the set at 15-15, then building a 20-16 lead. PCM put together a 5-0 run to regain the lead, but  Greene County closed out the night with a 5-0 run of their own.

Tomorrow, the Rams finish the regular season at the Winterset Tournament. Class 3A Region 7 first round play is set for Tuesday, Oct. 22 at Des Moines Christian School in Urbandale at 7 p.m. vs. the host Lions.
