Greene County residents are invited to provide their feedback about making the roads in the county safer.

The Greene County Engineer’s Office is hosting a Safety Action Plan (SAP) workshop tomorrow from 8:30-11:30am at the Greene County Community Center in Jefferson. According to the Iowa County Engineers Association, an SAP is a document that local governments use to make strategic roadway safety improvements. The SAP contains the most significant safety concerns of roadways in the county, along with projects and other ways to address them.

The Iowa County Engineers Association states that one of the main benefits of having an SAP allows for local entities to apply for Safe Streets and Roads For All (SS4A). This is a discretionary grant program that was from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that appropriated $5 million for five years from 2022 to 2026. The federal grant helps with funding for jurisdiction planning, infrastructure, and behavioral and operational initiatives to prevent death and serious injuries on the roadway.

The Greene County Engineer’s Office wants to get feedback from county residents about their safety concerns across the entire county roadways which will help further identify areas to address. Anyone with questions can contact the Engineer’s Office at 515-386-5650.
