The first open firearm hunting season in Iowa is wrapping up soon.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer for Greene County Aron Arthur says early muzzleloader season started October 12th and ends this Sunday. He advises those hunters that participate in the early muzzleloader season is to follow one important aspect before you go out to hunt.

“Make sure people know where you’re at and let people know you’re out there. So if you don’t show back up people, people know where you’re at and where to go look for you. In case something, you happen to fall out of a tree stand or something happens. Make sure people know where you’re at and make you follow the plan to hunt so if you do have an incident, people can find you.”

Arthur adds the main safety requirement to hunt with a firearm is wearing a minimum of a blaze orange vest, but he recommends to wear more so that individuals are more easily seen by other hunters.
