Dallas County Attorney Jeannine Ritchie recently published a report in regards to the horrific events at Perry High School on January 4th.
Ritchie explains that a case was launched by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to review the details from the shooting. It was determined that 17-year-old Dylan Butler exited a school bathroom around 7:35am the morning of January 4th with a Remington 870 Shotgun and began firing at students and staff members. Ritchie notes that a deep analysis was done using Butler’s written and spoken words, more than 180 interviews, electronic and social media data, and video evidence.
The release concludes that Butler acted alone during the tragedy and there were no signs that anyone had prior knowledge of his plan. The shooting killed sixth grader Ahmir Jolliff and longtime High School Principal Dan Marburger, while injuring six others. Ritchie says that her condolences are with the families of those affected and she takes responsibility to uphold individuals to be accountable for their actions.
She stresses that as a society, people need to work together to speak up when a situation seems off and the importance of having loving support around. Ritchie is dedicated to assisting in any way possible to stop shootings at all levels. To read the full press release, click the link below.
