The first day for individuals who aren’t elderly or disabled to apply for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is coming up.

New Opportunities of Guthrie County Family Development Coordinator Rhonda Huggins says that November 1st is when all individuals can apply for LIHEAP. She mentions that the program is based off of a household’s income, and mentions that this year, a one person household would have to have a yearly income of less than $30,120, with roughly $10,000 added per other person in the household. Huggins tells Raccoon Valley Radio that once a person is found to be income eligible for LIHEAP, they can receive help from one of the other services she oversees as well.

“If you qualify for LIHEAP and are income qualified, then you’re also qualified to receive food pantry here. You don’t have to have LIHEAP to get food pantry, but we do ask to have you fill out an application.”

Huggins mentions that once applications open up on November 1st, they do need individuals to bring in their social security cards for everyone in the household, and proof of pay for the past month for those that work. She adds that usually only new households need to bring in the social security cards, but they switched systems and need to have those for refiling this year.
