Monday night, the Adair County Health Services Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance received a donation of equipment.

The Greenfield Lions and District Nine Southwest Lions Clubs of Iowa donated a power washer, air compressor, portable radio, three portable radio chargers and five portable radio corded mics/speakers. Adair County Ambulance Paramedic Casey Larson tells Raccoon Valley Radio what it means to receive the equipment.

“You know, it’s kind of the beginning of being made whole again, which is a nice thing to see. In the community, there’s a lot of places being made whole, and this is just another step to putting back what once was.”

Larson explains that the power washer will help keep the ambulances clean, which helps them to keep them maintained, while the air compressor helps them keep the wheels properly aired, and allows them to do so in their temporary home instead of going to the Casey’s General Store. He adds that the portable radio and accessories will help to keep the third ambulance in contact with the rest of the rigs.

The donation of the equipment occurred at the current temporary home for the service, which Larson said he actually remembers fondly.

“Currently, and ironically enough, this is where my EMS career started. This is the old fire station, and it went out of service for fire in 2012. The city took it back over. They’re using it for storing dump trucks, (and) city equipment. So the hospital’s currently renting it from the city.”

Larson mentions that it’s interesting to have come full circle to once again be working where he started his EMS career 14 years later, but that he’s glad that he and the other members of the ambulance crews are able to continue to serve
