Even though one week of regular season football remains for Class 2A programs, the four playoff teams from District 8 have been determined. By winning 10-7 in Gowrie on Friday night vs. Southeast Valley, Coach Caden Duncan’s Rams are 2-2 in the district and 3-4 overall while the Jaguars are 1-3 in district play and also 3-4 overall. Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) is 4-0 in the district with SE Valley left on their schedule. Roland-Story (Story City) is 3-1 and meets 0-5 Saydel (Des Moines, with Des Moines Christian and Greene County facing each other on Oct. 18 in Jefferson on Senior Night. Both have losses to the Knights and Norsemen and both have victories vs. SEV and Saydel. Friday’s winner between the Rams and Lions will be the district’s third place team with the losing squad finishing fourth.

The Rams missed the playoffs in 2023, so returning to the postseason was important for Coach Duncan, his coaching staff, and the players. Prior to the win in Gowrie, the last time the Rams won a game by scoring 10 points or fewer was 14 years ago. On October 1, 2010 the then JSPC Rams won 7-0 over East Sac County (Lake View).
