An annual event to gear up for the winter season will be held tomorrow in the City of Adel.
The 10th annual Dallas County Coat Giveaway is going on at the Adel First Christian Church, on the corner of Highway 169 and Rapids Street, tomorrow from 9-11am. Organizer Della Weems tells Raccoon Valley Radio that over 300 coats have been donated from the Adel Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus from St. John’s Church, and the Adel Christian Church. She reveals the amount of coats given away in 2023.
“Last year we gave out over 350 coats. It probably hurts us a bit that we haven’t had a cold snap (this year) because people don’t really think about winter coats when it’s 80 (degrees), but hopefully we will get lots of people who need a coat.”
Weems notes that attendees will be able to take one coat per person as the sizes range from infant to adult. She details that the Adel Women’s Club provides hats, mittens, and scarfs as part of the giveaway. She emphasizes that all items will be available at no charge, and invites people to come look around.
