A Jefferson man was recently sentenced to probation following a high speed chase that started in Carroll County this past June.
According to court documents, 25-year-old Kyle Rysavy pled guilty in Carroll County District Court to a Class D Felony for eluding and an aggravated misdemeanor for driving while barred. He had a five year and a two year prison sentences suspended, respectively, and was placed on probation for two years with the Iowa Department of Correctional Services.
The charges stemmed from an incident on June 13th when a Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputy clocked the speed of a westbound vehicle on Highway 141 at 79 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone. The vehicle Rysavy was driving was stolen from Jefferson and he refused to stop as the deputy activated the patrol vehicle’s lights and sirens. A chase ensued and entered Manning, where side streets were used, before heading back onto the highway. Then as Rysavy turned toward Aspinwell in Crawford County, the deputy’s vehicle veered and then struck Rysavy’s vehicle, forcing it to a stop and he was apprehended after further incident.
Rysavy was also ordered to pay over $800 in court costs, court-appointed attorney fees and a probation fee. As per the plea agreement, the aggravated misdemeanor for operating a vehicle without owner’s consent was dismissed.
