Work on the Raccoon River Valley Trail (RRVT) has already begun on sections in Greene and Guthrie Counties thanks to a grant.

Guthrie County Conservation Director Brad Halterman says that there is a section of the trail stretching from Yale in Guthrie County to just north of Cooper in Greene County that was put in at the same time, so the respective County Conservation Boards wanted to work together on that project. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that a large grant has already helped get things rolling.

“So back in the end part of July, we were notified that we were awarded $1.2 million in Regional Transportation Alternative program funds (through the Iowa DOT). We’re very excited this door has been opened to us. We’ve taken the first step of getting an engineering firm hired to get the preliminary engineering done out on the trail, and that’s progressing very nicely.”

Halterman mentions that the two Conservation Boards are working together to apply for more grants to do these critical repairs to the RRVT to keep it safe and enjoyable for all.
