The Greene County Board of Supervisors met in regular session on Monday.

During reports, Supervisor Vice Chair Dawn Rudolph mentioned at a recent Greene County Board of Health meeting Shelby Cooklin was approved to be the new Greene County Public Health Director, as Becky Wolf will officially retire from the position at the end of the year.

The Board then approved hiring Kelsey Hatfield as a full-time jailer for the sheriff’s office, with a salary of $47,000, with an increase to $48,000 once she is certified. The Board also approved hiring Kristal Morales as a part-time jailer with a $19 per hour wage, and an increase to $20 per hour once she is certified. Sheriff Jack Williams noted that there are two full-time dispatch and one full-time jailer positions that are still open.

Additionally, the Board approved a resolution to authorize a second interfund loan not to exceed $400,000 from the General Basic to Capital Project Funds for payment on the pre-construction costs that are necessary for the new county jail. County Auditor Billie Jo Hoskins said in May, the Board approved the same resolution not to exceed $400,000, but the total was about $350,000 and she thought there would not be enough funds to cover for the rest of 2024. These funds will be paid back through the bonding receipts once those are received.

Finally, there was a brief discussion about some changes to the mental health region that Greene County is a part of with Central Iowa Community Services (CICS). Operations Officer Megan Freie said CICS is currently applying in three of five districts for a Reason For Proposal for a behavioral health administrative services system that was developed by the state. She noted that this could impact CICS in that if their organization does not get awarded the RFP, then those services would be done through whatever group does get that. She noted that CICS continues to have a representative in Greene County to provide services to clients.
