Harvest has begun for some farmers in Guthrie County, and more are ready to get started.

Guthrie County Sheriff Marty Arganbright mentions that with equipment already on the roadways, there are several safety tips that drivers should keep in mind. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio one of the tips he thinks is most important.

“The machinery now is as big as it’s ever been. That machinery doesn’t go with the flow as far as speed limits, with traffic. So when you come up behind a combine or large wagon with a tractor, or any kind of implement like that, you need to be prepared to slow down, stay behind until it’s in a safe place to pass.”

Arganbright says that some other tips he commonly gives out are to have patience, and be prepared to stop. He adds that for both farmers and the public, it is also important to leave enough room for the equipment to make turns, so that it doesn’t get caught on something and so people stay safe.
