The Dallas County Hospital is offering a new service to help with more acute injuries.
DCH is introducing their advanced wound care program that tackles ulcers, wounds, and crush injuries. Public Relations Marketing Director Tom Harmsen explains that the hospital felt an opportunity to address a gap with wound care within Dallas County. He reviews areas that this department will focus on.
“Product of diabetes, or after surgery, or radiation. Others can occur whether it be pressure injuries from long periods of sitting, or certain parts of the body after long periods of activity even.”
Harmsen suggests starting with a primary provider to determine whether a person should seek treatment for wound care. He outlines the benefits he sees with advanced wound care assisting residents.
“Our goal is to offer some preventative measures before wounds exacerbate, plus our providers are all well-networked within the system if there’s other providers that patients would benefit from while they’re here. We can access their needs and where also we might refer them to within.”
