The City of Perry is offering a solution to better save stray cats than people breeding them.

The city is asking residents to restrain from keeping stray cats to themselves, and instead try to get them over to the Raccoon River Pet Rescue. Board Member Janelle Repp tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the organization provides a low-cost spay/neuter clinic, and stresses the benefits of having stray cats checked.

“It’s one thing to feed them. I totally understand why people want to do that because it’s sad, you don’t want to see them suffering, but the best way to take care of our feral cat population is to spay and neuter them, so they’re not getting overpopulated.”

Repp encourages people to schedule an appointment to drop off stray cats as she describes that residents can trap them in a cage to safely transfer them to the clinic. Any questions can be directed to the Raccoon River Pet Rescue at (515)-465-1800.
