The Dallas County Health Department pinpoints that the early fall season is a good time to schedule flu and Covid shots.
Community Health Educator Natalie Peters tells Raccoon Valley Radio that viruses like influenza and SARS-CoV-2 mutate, causing variants. She stresses that people should be getting up to date shots in order to prevent getting sick or mitigating the risk of enduring serious complications.
“Scientists use several methods to predict which variants of the flu and Covid viruses would be most common during the respiratory illness season here in the United States, so that our vaccines can be more effective.”
Peters recommends that individuals six months of age and older should consider getting a flu and Covid Vaccine between now and the end of October. As to where to schedule the shots, Peters demonstrates that people can set that up at their primary health care providers or local pharmacies.
She says the health department also offers shots for $30, but reveals that people who qualify for the Vaccines for Children/Adult Program can have the shot for free. For more information, contact the Dallas County Health Department at (515)-993-3750.
