As the weather continues to change with the fall season, over things will change as well.

Guthrie County Conservation Director Brad Halterman says that as the cooler temperatures and shorter days come, plants and animals will begin to change. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the number and kinds of birds that are out and about us one of the more noticeable changes.

“You know, in the spring when you’ve got spring migrations of birds, migrating through the fall is the same, except the birds are obviously heading back the other way. But the fall can be a time too, to catch a lot of birds that migrate back through that you don’t necessarily see in good numbers or at all during the summer months.”

Halterman mentions that other changes that can be seen in the wildlife include the presence of more deer as they become more active, and seeing some animals like squirrels prepare to start hibernating. He adds that there is also the changing of colors for tree leaves that people see in plants, along with some wild plants finishing producing fruits.
