Dallas County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is hosting a program involving a colorful insect on Monday.
Youth Outreach Coordinator Kathy Rottinghaus states that first and second graders at Adel Classic Academy are in the midst of witnessing the transformation of caterpillars turning into butterflies. She discusses where the insects are in the current stage.
“Currently (they are) cocoons, but we are hoping by Monday they’ll be butterflies, and then we will be able to release them into the nature.”
Rottinghaus details that ISU Extension and Outreach believes that students being able to experience the natural evolution of butterflies will bring them development skills for the future. The students will send off the butterflies at 2:30pm on Monday.
