Freshman Elliotte Von Roden, apart of the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Girls Cross Country Team journeys back into the first half of the season.
Von Roden tells Raccoon Valley Radio that she is learning how to balance her emotions during a race and improvement with her running form. The Tigers won their last meet on Tuesday, where Von Roden was second overall with a time of 20:40 in the 5K. She recalls how the race unfolded.
“It was really good to go out and see our times and how close together we were. And just kind of like also regain our confidence as a team personally. Make sure we all knew that we could stick together in a race, I feel like it was very good like trial run.”
Von Roden’s favorite course that she’s ran on so far this season has been Iowa State University’s in Ames because it provided a good mix between hills and flatter surfaces. She highlights other areas she wants to continue to improve in throughout the rest of the season.
“Not giving up in the middle of a race. Like just trying to keep my pace up. I know I start off really strong, I have a really good kick at the end, just trying to maintain in the middle and stuff. Knowing that I can go and be uncomfortable when I run and not like feel a bunch of pressure when I’m running.”
The full interview will be a feature in Monday’s edition of the Raccoon Valley Bank Dallas County PM Sports Magazine that airs at 6pm on KDLS 94.3 FM/1310 AM. ADM Girls Cross Country will return to the course this Tuesday at the Williamsburg Recreation Center, starting at 4:30pm.
