The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.

The Council approved hiring Henry Pohlmeyer as the new assistant parks and recreation director. It was mentioned that Pohlmeyer is a 2015 Johnston High School graduate, wrestled at South Dakota State University and graduated with a political science degree in 2020, and is currently at Drake University for a master’s degree in business administration. His annual salary is $48,000. 

Additionally, the Council approved the second reading to amend an ordinance to increase water rates by five percent with a 4-1 vote, with Council member Chad Sloan voting no. They also approved the sixth change order for $113,226 for the Wastewater Treatment Plant improvement project, a resolution for an agreement, on behalf of the Jefferson Tree Committee, with the Iowa Department of Transportation for a $11,000 Living Roadside Trust Fund Grant to plant additional trees, an a plat of survey for the Greene County School District to split off a parcel of land to The Children’s Center to build an additional playground. Finally, the Council approved the quarterly funding request with Greene County Development Corporation.

 

City Administrator Scott Peterson reported that the DOT held its public informational meeting on Monday about possibly converting Highway 4 from four to three lanes. He mentioned that the DOT will make a report from the comments and feedback from the public to the streets committee in October.
