A Scranton man was recently sentenced for a December 2023 incident.

According to court documents, 27-year-old Jacob Vreugdenhil pled guilty to a Class D Felony for second degree criminal mischief. He had a five year prison sentence suspended and was placed on probation for three years with the Iowa Department of Correctional Services.

The charge stemmed from an incident on December 2, 2023. A Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy investigated a broken back window to a vehicle that was at the victim’s home in Grand Junction. The damage was estimated at $4,600. Court documents show that the victim was talking to another individual who was with Vreugdenhil and that he denied being at the victim’s home and causing damage to the vehicle.

Vreugdenhil was also ordered to pay over $800 in victim restitution, court costs and probation fees. As per the plea agreement, the serious misdemeanor charge for trespassing causing over $300 in damages was dismissed.
