During Friday night’s 44-14 Greene County Homecoming football game victory over Saydel (Des Moines), it was evident the Eagles were being held below their season averages through the air and on the ground. A closer look at the stats show Coach Caden Duncan’s team held Saydel, a squad that averaged well over 400 yards of total offense per game in its first three contests, to just 223 total yards. Of that total, 146 was through the air and 77 on the ground.
Saydel’s senior quarterback AJ Ollin (O-lin) was 16-35-2 passing and his aerial yardage was about half of what he averaged in weeks one, two, and three. On the ground, Ollin accounted for most of the Eagles’ yards, but again, he had been averaging 90 rushing yards per game individually.
The Rams held the Eagles to 14 points, 13 below the 27 they averaged going into week four, while the Rams had well over 400 yards of offense and they scored 44 points, 20 above their season average entering the contest.
The game opened Class 2A District 8 play with the Rams 1-0 and 2-2 overall. The Eagles are 0-1 in the district and 1-3 on the season.
